We arrived in Corniglia on the last possible train – which was at 1:30 am. This meant that the bus that takes you up the hill into town, which stops running at 8 pm, was unavailable. Fortunately, my brother Jon and his wife Carrie had already gotten there and checked in and were nice enough to come meet us. There are actually two options to get up into the town: 1) Climb 365 stairs 2) Walk the roughly 1 mile up the road. We elected for the road with our luggage…but it was still a pretty good hike.
We had two apartments that actually could have slept 9 pretty comfortably, but with the 6 of us was great. The apartments were clean, the beds were reasonably comfortable, and they had kitchens to prepare our own food. This was important, because possibly the best meal we’ve had in Italy we prepared there and ate on the amazing rooftop terrace. Of the 3 double beds, two were actually 2 twins pushed together, so only one was actually a double bed.
Corniglia offered a good place to explore from, but I think when we go back, we’ll look for something in Vernazza. The train comes right into town (no hike or bus), and the ferry stops there too (unlike Corniglia – the only one of the 5 it doesn’t stop in), and it seemed “nicer” to me than Monterossa – the biggest of the five.
If you’d like to stay in the apartment we did (highly recommended if staying in Corniglia), you can contact them here:

By the way, did I mention that all of Cinque Terre is gorgeous?
