Hotel Transit is in transition (ha ha). It is undergoing a complete renovation. Our room was actually just fine for us, but it was small. It was newly renovated and was pretty nicely done. Anyone who is bigger than we are might have a hard time with it. The downside of this hotel was that sleeping in at all was pretty tough. They are renovating the main stairway and other rooms and construction (or, in the case of when were were there – destruction) started about 8:30. Not bad…unless you were up until 2 am and have a pregnant wife that you want to get plenty of rest. Until the construction is done though (estimated December 2011), it is NOT a place to hang out during the day.
It is only a block though from the main train station which makes getting around pretty easy. There is also a nice park across the street which has WiFi access. There is no internet available in the hotel, but Barcelona has a free WiFi network in many public places in the city and the big park next to the train station is one of these areas.
Overall, I’d say that Transit was worth about what we paid for it and was a decent place to explore the city from. If you’re used to really fancy places, you probably won’t like it, but if you don’t mind a basic place, you could do worse (especially once the renovation is done).
