Adam’s Version
We met at CSU. I was walking down the hall of my dorm the first week of my junior year to visit some friends who lived in another “wing” of the dorm. I had to step around a group of freshmen who were sitting around in the hall playing cards. One of them, Laura, asked me to play cards; the game “Speed” to be exact, because no one else wanted to play any more. I hadn’t played Speed for a couple years, but I used to enjoy it in high school, so I decided to play. We played a few games. I think she won 3 hands and I won 1, but I decided to go ahead and go see the friends who lived basically across the hall from Laura. Over the next week or so we got to know each other better and Laura told me she “liked me” (which is a story itself). I asked her on a date and we went on our first date on August 29, 2001.
Laura’s Version
Adam and I met the first week I moved up to Ft. Collins (6 years ago). We both lived in Braiden Hall, I was on the south side and Adam was on the north. He would mosey on over to my side of the dorms to visit some friends of his quite a bit, but little did he know he had a spectator. I remember the first time I saw him and thought “Wesley!” (Princess Bride…The most handsome and amazing pirate ever…Hello!) He looked just like a prince so sweet, handsome, and debonair and focused. Never did I ever think that this older college guy would have interest in a crazy freshman like me. However, one night changed the stars. I was in the hallway with a few people playing cards for a while but they gave up playing and I was on a roll, determined to keep playing. Adam’s timing was impeccable, as he stepped over the mass of arms and legs I said “Hey you! Play speed with me…” Now Adam believes differently, but we played three games and I won those three games. Unable to bare any more pain of losing he got up and continued on his journey to the room of computer nerds. (He he!) After that we had a few encounters in the hallway that led to some flirtation, but Adam wasn’t exactly focused on girls but more so of being pleasant and nice to everyone. I didn’t exactly feel like it would go anywhere. Who knows how, but my roommate took me to a special get together where we enjoyed a few too many and walked ourselves home (that’s another story). The trip ended with Adam at the entrance; again perfect timing, letting us back into the dorm. I felt so excited to see him that I jumped into his arms and said “ADAM!!!!!” (Odd, I know!) My roommate took the room keys and ran to the restroom as I stayed back and started to talk freely with Adam. Without skipping a beat I told him “You know I shouldn’t tell you this, but here it goes…Well, I like you!” PAUSE. Adam responds “Okay.” PAUSE. Unsure, I continue “Well, what do you think?” PAUSE. This is funny. Adam tells me “Well, I’m careful.” I thought to myself “What does that mean? What does he mean by that?” Luckily I shook it off, we stopped at the lobby, I played with someone’s afro, I grabbed my keys from my roommate and we went to Adam’s room to keep talking. There he made me a quesadilla and some orange juice to help me feel better. While sitting on his green futon we ended up talking for hours about everything and anything. Leaning on his shoulder thinking about how much I wanted to kiss him, Adam whispers to me “ I know you want me to kiss you…” “Oh no, no, you’re careful and I just wanted to..” and before I knew it he lifted my chin and gave me the most wonderful kiss ever. From that point on we went on our first date and have been together ever since.
